What is Multitasking?

Multitasking is the ability of an operating system on a microcomputer to run two or more application programs concurrently (i.e. at the same time). This allows the user to launch multiple programs (such as a web browser and a word processor) and easily and quickly jump back and forth between the programs as needed.

One advantage of multi-tasking is sharing of data between applications using the "clipboard" (the portion of memory used by the cut, copy, and paste commands).

Therefore, to share data between applications...

  1. Select the data.
  2. Use "cut" or "copy" to place it on the clipboard.
  3. Switch to the other program (how? ... see below)
  4. Position the cursor at the desired location.
  5. Use "paste" to insert the data from the clipboard.

How do you switch between programs? It depends on the operating system you are using.
